Atelier Fine Metal Roofing installed an intricate terne-coated stainless steel roof for Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center for the Arts in 2021-2022. The museum was designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, and the roof, with its dramatic sloping lines and 24 skylights, is integral to the architecture's sculptural impact. This is no ordinary metal roof, and the replacement had to be done right. Our architect conducted an extensive search for the right installer. When he met with William Verlander onsite for a 4-hour rooftop inspection, he felt certain that he had found the company we needed. We hired Atelier for the job. The job they did was exquisite. Mr. Verlander and his crew worked with boundless patience, crafting, in the very essence of the word, metal folded uniquely, with thoughtful skill. They interlocked the metal pieces one by one across the expanse of the roof. The project took just over 18 months. But time was not the highest priority. It took the time it took to do the job they way it needed to be done. There were material delays and seemingly unsolvable challenges, but there was not a day their team did not show pride and excitement in their work and appreciation for all that comes from working outdoors with your hands. The result is a stunning metal roof, that, in the words of William Verlander "you could drive a truck over."
